Quick Facts

Jewelers Tiffany & Co., based in New York, are responsible for making the Super Bowl trophy

Several readers have e-mailed to ask me what has happened to the Bill Rosinski Show, which was pulled off the airwaves earlier this week. Basically here's the condensed version -- the syndicator, Charis Radio Network, was losing money, quite a bit of it, in fact, prompting owner Danny Fontana to cancel the show.

It was not a reflection at all on Rosinski’s work, and I'm not saying that because Bill is a friend. (We've known each other since 1995 when the Panthers came into the league).

Folks, this was simply a monetary issue.

I talked to Rosinski about the decision Wednesday.

“The company I was working for ran out of money and the business plan didn’t work – that’s basically what happened,” Rosinski said. “They decided to pull the plug.”

The Bill Rosinski Show, which started a little more than two years ago, had been on four stations but was later dropped by other markets and, as of earlier this month, could only be heard on WFNZ and Greensboro-based WBLO-AM.

Rosinski, who for 10 years was the voice of the Carolina Panthers, still broadcasts NFL games for Westwood One radio (in fact, he will broadcast the Saints-Panthers game a week from Sunday) and ACC football games ISP Sports. He said he also plans to broadcast some ACC basketball for ISP.

Bill is great at what he does, and while this has certainly been a rough few years, I'm sure he will land on his feet.

Fontana, by the way, owns the radio station WDYT-AM, whose towers are located in the Gastonia area.

WFNZ is debating on how to fill Rosinski's time slot.

The show has been temporarily replaced on WFNZ by Tony Bruno of Sporting News Radio. By the way, I think they should rename it the Tony Brutal Show because it's simply terrible. I think I heard him talk about the “man card” about 15 times in a half hour, almost vomited, and turned it off vowing never to listen again.

Look for WFNZ to have a local sports show in place during that time period before long.

WFNZ needs to man up and hire Bill and put his show back on the air. It was a great balance between local and national issues and always had a good line up of guests. I need my Rosinski show fix.

I agree about the Bruno thing. I hope WFNZ will really look hard at seeing if they can sell these two hours. I know that Bill misses some shows due to going out of town to do play by play, but I think that really helps keep his show fresh. Also, the people on the former show must be complimented for getting very good guest on a regular basis. I am very disappointed that the show is off the air. Please, WFNZ, look hard at trying to put something together to get this show back on the air.

Rosinski was the best show on WFNZ. It is hard to believe The Mac Attack is easier to sell to advertisers than Bill's show. The only thing that makes Packer's show any better is the guest hosts. Both the Packer and Mac shows are ridiculous with the clowns they have in the background. I agree with the poster above that FNZ needs to hire Bill and keep the show on the air.

Also, the reason that his show probably got all the different guest that they got all the time was because Bill was going to all these different games all over the country allowing him to meet so many more people involved in the different events. I am around a radio for probably 12 hours a day. I appreciated that Bill's show was able to have so many different guest from so many different areas of the country. I liked hearing the various points of view.

The Chuck Howard show, so far, after 1 week, appears to be just a time killer.

I think that it would be a positive move for WFNZ to try to get his show on at their studio. A couple of hours of "grown up" talk between the Morning Sports Page and Mac's show have got to be easier to sell. I'm sure it is easier to listen to.

And if the problem is that Danny Fontana or Charis Radio Network won't allow Bill out of the contract or that they are holding him to a no compete clause, then they can go pound sand.

Bill's show was classy, informative and respectable.

Sorry I can't say the same for the bookends around his show. I guess advertisers like trashy, goofy fluff better than what Bill has to offer.

Bill, your talent is better appreciated on a national market anyway. Good Luck and God bless.

Too bad. Best show on the dial. Just issues and info. Listening to Bill was like talking to your to your friends and nobody had more details about what was going on in everybody's locker room. Most of the other guys have never been in a locker room.
