Quick Facts

Jewelers Tiffany & Co., based in New York, are responsible for making the Super Bowl trophy

6 p.m. Not only did the Carolina Panthers decide not to sign Michael Turner, clearly the best running back in free agency, but now they will have to face him twice a year. Turner signed a whoppping six-year, $34.5 million deal with that team down the road on I-85. Turner will get $15 million guaranteed from the Falcons.

It's been a very quiet day for the Panthers -- again. Anyone else getting impatient.

I'm sure a lot of people are getting impatient. But I really think we have a plan and know what they are doing. Our success in 08 primarilly hinges on a healthy Jake. I want to see us sign Rod Coleman and Marlon McCree. Turner is a big risk. He had what, 371 yards last year?

Gravatar

Are we actually getting worse?

Gravatar

i would love to see both marlon mccree and chris harris in our back seven

Turner, I once had high hopes for this offseason but now, who knows. I mean what are we waiting on the price to go way down and get a bunch of unknown guys and hope they can contribute to a championship caliber team ?? Their is a reason that alot of these players we are looking at have been released even from bad teams b/c the suck. I mean if your playing for the Raiders or Browns and cannot get any playing time their is a problem especially if you play defense. To any event I hope we get more active and at the very least sign Coleman and McCree since their about all that is left out their. Julius Jones is the best back left but I still don't see us making a major play for him. I like the idea of T.J Duckett and we could use him the same way the Falcons did. WE NEED A SHORT YARDAGE BACK ever since Stephan Davis retired or left via free agency.

Hurney needs to start sending resumes out to other teams for a new job next season! These bad moves will come back to haunt us fans! What does he care!!!!!!

Gravatar

Marlon McCree is scheduled to meet with the Cincinnati Bengals so thats going to be a loss that Hurney was at fault for too! Coleman I'll haft to see it to believe it!

Gravatar

I sure am. All they have done is bring in a kick returner and that means nothing unless his first name is devin and his last is hester. We must sign coleman or we can just let people kill us up the middle. We need to get people who have raw talent. We need to spend money. Like as we did when we make it to the super bowl in 03'. You may wonder why we never get big names. Well we are scaried. You may say all players play iwth a passion. But that is right but also wrong. We need to creat a bond between the players. Get us a power runner and kill with a playaction. But we need to rebuild our Defence. We need to pay big bucks for big playmakers. But we never get anything. We need to let the panther staff know how we fill. The true fans watching jax beat the crap out of us. Yall are killing yourselfs. Loosing money in merchidice. our local sports storn now sells nfl panthers jerseys for I think 8 dollors the team is so bad. Yall must stop worring and get someone in that can get the job done!

Gravatar

This just in......Panthers trade Steve Smith to the Tenessee Titans for Adam "Pacman" Jones...Hurney says that Pacman has a lot of upside....LOL

Gravatar

Dino you made my heart drop! Here's another off the free agent market Alge Crumpler signed and will be a Titan!

Gravatar

Not that it would ever happen, but on ESPN, The Panthers are listed as one of the 5 teams other than the Patriots that Randy Moss could end up with. They were ranked 4th out of 5.

Gravatar

Since the Falcons got Turner, we better get Rod Coleman or we will pay dearly up the middle next year. I'm not even stressin over the panthers FA decisions anymore.....I should have never got my hopes up anyway. The way things look we will probably end up last in the NFC South next season because all the teams are upgrading except us.

Gravatar

So far it looks like the panthers have created more holes than answers? Bryant Johnson (WR), Turner (RB), DE, OT and Now we need a DT. I won't be so worried if we at least made a run at one of these guys. WTF!

Gravatar

Bryant Johnson and Hackett still available. I'm waiting...

Gravatar

Dino, the only reason ESPN has us in the Moss sweepstakes is we have a need for a WR and we have money to spend. If they knew Hurney and Fox like we do, we wouldn't be on the list. We all know they won't ever make that move.

Gravatar

i agree with jon b. tampa is planning on shipping in big names. the saints ARE shipping in big names. the falcons are shopping. whats carolina doing? working towards a no.1 pick next year. 2-14 i predict.

Gravatar

Do they wanna suck?

Gravatar

I don't think we'd go after Moss either, we are too scared to make a signing like that. I wouldn't be a fan of that move anyway. We couldn't win enough games to keep Moss happy, and with Steve Smith, we wouldn't be able to get Moss enough touches. Smith is as good or better than Moss, Plus he is a better team guy.

Gravatar

Steve, why the constant Turner stories, sure we could use him, but could we afford him, NO?

Gravatar

why would you want mcree and harris? both are slow! we already get burned deep atleast once a game. Mcree was nice, but hes not now

Gravatar

I've been looking at the options we have left to fill our team needs. What do you think about Michael Boulware. He's got 11 int's in 4 career years. I think he could be a good coverage safety. That's just a backup plan since we all know Hurney is a little too dazed to make a move on McCree. Hurney still thinks we just came from the Super Bowl. Bryant Johnson is going to expect more than what we really want to give to an unproven WR. He may be our only option though since Stallworth and better options are gone. Obviously I would enjoy having Coleman on the line. What about Shane Olivea? The Charges OT that they just released. If I'm correct, he started while LT broke the records. He may be pricey as well in a depleted Oline market, but it's worth a shot. If we get him, John Stewart becomes an easy choice in the first round, and we can then fill up our lesser needs in later rounds. Now here's my dream scenario. We trade our second and third round pick for a lower first rounder of this year. Then we take that pick and our other third rounder we got from the Jets for the tender needed to sign Marion Barber. Sign him to a six year $57 million contract. Pick up Ryan Clady in the first round, and James Hardy in the second. Also it would be nice if the Freak took a smaller contract such as a 2 year $6 million contract. We would be set.

Is anyone really worried about Turner being a Falcon? Last time I checked a RB is usually only as good as his O-Line. Right now the Falcons don't even have an O-line. Literally. I am glad the Panthers haven't gotten crazy in Free agency. It is full of mediocre players. Turner can play but he won't do much in Atlanta unless they can get him a QB & an O-Line. Does anyone really think they will have both in place this year?
The team that worries me with their moves is the Saints. Their pick up of Vilma might be one of the best ones of this offseason.
I do hope the Panthers can sign Rod Coleman but other than that I think they have been smart not to get too involved with free agency. Look at what the current champs did last year. They drafted 8 players and they all made a difference in their run. You have to hope the Panthers can finally get it right there this year because there isn't enough out there in free agency to really help get you over the top.

Gravatar

Eric, you have to realize that the Giants did this by NOT drafting anybody from USC (Practically Panther's farm team). At least some of these free-agents have actually played in the league and obviously have had success to warrant a bidding war. I much rather not put the team's future in the hands of our USC...err...college scouts.

Gravatar

Codebrown, do you realize that the Giants DID draft a receiver from USC last year by the name of Steve Smith?
Did you know that the other Super Bowl team also drafted a USC player last year?
Or that with the two Trojan players the panthers drafted last year, Carolina has drafted a total of 4 USC players in their entire existence?
