Newton-dice-rolling them & the NFL draft...

let's face it...when one considers the physical attributes Newton brings to  the table as a QB his talents can be said to be a once in every 10 yr talent...couple that with the Panthers having the number one overall pick by way of being the poorest team W-L wise in the league (I hope such a dynamic never-ever happens again)...the sun, moon and stars have all lined up to draft this guy...such an opporuntity may never present it self again...as stated I hope it never-ever does again...so now is the time, if there ever is a time to be a little risky with the dice...roll them on Newton...draft him!!!!!

His athlete stats from the combine aren't that much different from Gabbert's.  I was shocked when I saw Gabbert's numbers.  I would roll the dice on either one.  Whatever one I thought would be the best in 3-5 years.  I hope they pick right.  If after next year the pick looks dicey and Luck is available I wouldn't hesitate to pick him.  A true franchise QB is worth gambling for.

Re: Newton-dice-rolling them & the NFL draft...

Everyone is getting blinded because of his package of size and athelticism. To be a franchise QB in the NFL, you have to be a leader and able to make all the throws.

Due to his character concerns and some of the comments he has made, there are many red flags if he can be the leader on an NFL football team.

But the biggest flag against Newton is that he needs development in his throwing. If you watch the combine he can't hit a 5 step drop square out if his life depended on it; and that isn't a complex throw.

I will hold off on my final opinion about Newton until I see his pro-day tomorrow. But currently, I believe that he will be a bust in the NFL and I will get sick to my stomach if we draft this guy.

They say his throwing motion is tight which is good and his 3-5-7 step drops is good plus the out route passes wasn't all his fault a coach had to direct Titus the wideout he was throwing to on how the run the route and that's fact. That said I still don't know but if they (Newton and Gabbert) have a real good proday how will they pass on them? I was thinking draft Peterson, draft a Dt in the third and pick up a Dt in FA how do that sound to you guys?

Begasu, that is the route I would rather see the Panther draft this year. Either a DL or Peterson in the first round followed up by a DL. Hoping someone like Austin drops to the 3rd round since the DL draft is so deep this year.

Personally, I am willing to give Clausen another year as the QB. All QB's who went under center for Carolina faired poorly. Davidson and Fox put the offensive players in a bad position. So give him another shot to prove himself before we waste another high pick on a QB.

That makes perfect sense but what if it wasn't Fox or Davidson. What if it wasn't rookie wide receivers. What if our qb's were that bad it would break my heart to see Gabby out there looking like Unitas.

Re: Newton-dice-rolling them & the NFL draft...

We passed on Aaron Rogers when we should have realized Delhomme was getting old.  I don't want to pass on one and 4 yrs from now see either one, Gabbert or Newton leading the Bills or some other team to the super bowl.  If we are going to be great, I mean mentioned with the 60's packers,  70's steelers, 80's niners, 90's cowboys and current patriots and steelers we need elite QB play.  I don't want to win 1 super bowl with a game manager, I want to win many super bowls with a Hall of Fame QB.
