Clayton on NewtonIn eval'ing the past 2 weeks of practice and the 1st preseason game...John Clayton's observation was that Newton has exceeded even the organizations expectations/learning curve process/development progress...certainly felt that Newton has a ways to go...but said Newton would become the starting Q by week 1 -v- Ariz...that was cool! With all the attributes he brings on to the field...Newton in week 1 would be no surprise at least thats how I would see it from up here in the Good Life State of N...:)...Thoughts?

Re: Clayton on NewtonAll the so-called experts who have never met him doubted his work ethic and ability to learn. You can't evaluate that without interviewing the man. I feel the best about our long term future than at any other time. This is the first time I feel we might have a long term franchise QB on our team. I realize we have a long way to go but I believe Cam can take us to the promised land and more than once. |

Re: Clayton on NewtonEveryone knows how I was before we drafted him. Well after seeing him play Saturday, I am more confident in his abilities. When he missed throws, he missed them in places where the defense could not get the ball. This means he saw the defense and gave the receiver a chance without putting it in a place where it could be lost. To me, that is a big deal. Everyone makes mistakes, but he played very well. There where some drops, but he was putting the ball int he right place for most of the night. I am very excited, and I can see him being the starter wee one. |

Re: Clayton on NewtonI was impressed he didn't throw a pass even close to being intercepted. He never took off running either which surprised me. He is going to learn how to play the position. He seems to understand a QB who throws is more effective than one who primarily runs. It took Mike Vick a long time to learn that lesson. |

Re: Clayton on NewtonI was impressed how Cam was able to look off his recievers and prgress to his outlet guy. Thats one thing alot of critics said he couldn't do. They all said he would just "tuck n run" if his first option wasn't there. He looks good but still alot of work to do. Im excited though!! |

Re: Clayton on Newtonsince the day they drafted him...i have felt that Newton would be the starter from game one onward...it's just the difference b/t Primerib and Rumproast...one simply brings more to the table...
