Plaxico the Panther.....

Which NFC team does Plaxico want to play for?

By Chuck Burton, AP
Will Plaxico Burress be donning a Panthers uniform in 2012?

By Nate Davis, USA TODAY

Plaxico Burress is perhaps the most high-profile NFL free agent who remains unsigned. But he knows where he wants to go: The Carolina Panthers.

"No doubt about it," Burress told WFNZ in Charlotte.

"My brother lives right there in Charlotte, my cousin lives there in Charlotte, and all my family is there in Columbia, South Carolina. It would just be a great situation all the way around and being close to everybody.

"Not just that, but playing with Cam (Newton), who I think is one of the top five quarterbacks in all of football, and as long as I can remember (wideout) Steve Smith has been one of my favorites. I just think it's a great situation."

In reality, any job would probably be a great situation for Burress, who's also expressed great interest in playing with Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles.

After spending nearly two years in prison on a weapons charge in New York, Burress returned in 2011 to catch 45 balls for 612 yards and eight TDs for the Jets. But the 6-5 target believes he has far more to offer with the rust off.

Re: Plaxico the Panther.....

OMG PLEASE!!!!  This would be a great fit IMO!!  Smith has previously stated many times that he would love the opportunity to return to the slot, and this would create the perfect opportunity with the size and speed of Burress commanding attention on the outside.

Now is the time to act Hurney!

Re: Plaxico the Panther.....

The only real great thing about this possibility is that he's desperate for a team. Vet minimum and an escalator for performance would be a done deal. But do we want him? As a TEAM that is. Would he fit the playbook? Would the playbook have to change for his presence and alter what we've been working on? Those would be my issues. We don't need a Me-shawn Davis in the lockerroom, and I don't think he'd be one, but we brought him in and didn't get a sufficient performance/value ratio.

Re: Plaxico the Panther.....

And of course our organization has already announced they are not interested. I just don't get that at all. We will bring in a STs guy for the same price with no where near the upside but won't even look at a RZ stud?  I mean 8 TDs is more than worth vet min. You are worried about a guys development that may or may not pan out over your teams needs. Just think if four FGs last year were TDs we have ten wins instead of six. That's what this move is about turning FGs into TDs which is supposedly a major focus for us. I like our young guys but a proven commodity is a proven commodity. He showed he could take a year off and still play at a high level at least RZ wise.

Not to mention the NFC South teams could use him. TB especially. Heck the Saints would work wonders with him especially in the RZ. They must have forgot we still have Mare as our kicker. These lack of risk taking moves will keep us middle of the pack. I get it and agree with it for the most part but you have to take chances in this league. The Pats are the best draft building team in the league yet every year they take a chance on a low risk high reward free agent. Heck two last year both failed but they did no harm.
