Weekly Debate - 8/3/12

In an attempt to inject some life around here, I'm gonna start a weekly debate to get fans perspective on news or events that are team or NFL related.

This week Phil Simms started an interesting debate on Eli Manning.  He claims that if Eli's career ended today he has done enough in his career to earn a sure trip to Canton (hall of fame).  What are your thoughts on Eli, and has he done enough to earn this distinction?

Debate.

IMO the hall is, and should be, based on longevity.  Eli, based on his performance the last couple years, is just now becoming an elite QB in the NFL.  Yes he has 2 rings, but his overall career is just not enough for him to be inducted right now IMO.  He is not that far away though, and his outstanding playoff record has him even closer.

Think the thing which seals the deal for E Manning getting in even if he retired tomorrow would be his Dad & Bro...the Manning name, right or wrong as it plays into the H o F, helps Eli significantly!

Negative. Do(es) the ring(s) alone get you in? Nope! Both his rings come down to 2 single passes made by great receivers at the time. Very lucky indeed but none the less lead to wins and ring. He did what he needed to, but not HOF caliber IMO. Maybe in 5 years from now, we talk. I still remember when his daddy wouldn't let him play for the chargers...what a sham.

I think that worked out well for the Chargers though....Phillip Rivers > Eli Manning IMO.

Agree, but it was a sham either way. He should be embarrassed that his daddy fights his battles as a grown man. I like rivers but hard to pull for a wolfie. I would love to see the chargers and Panthers in the Super Bowl this year. Chargers are claiming this year as their now or never-last year kinda like we are. Except we are young, but guys like Gross and Smitty, running back situation, LB corps may be looking different next year.
