Serious Question

This may come off as a bit of a "troll" question but I am serious and want to know what everyone thinks here.

Is this inconsistent up down play part of our team's identity?

I mean we have a new coach and new face of the franchise yet we seem to have the same "Panther" play.  Watching the game yesterday and week one all I could think of was this is the same ol typical Panthers. This is hard to explain but I think you all understand what I mean.  Like when things are going good we are just waiting for the bad to rear it's ugly head then we can relax like we expect it to come.  Does anyone else feel like that is part of our tradition/culture/team identity?  Even when we have had great seasons it is present.  (2208 with ARZ loss; 2005 with injuries) It's like we can't get over that hump.  We have watched as the Falcons and the Saints and possibly the Bucs have all made a radical culture change and have had success with it but yet we seem to be the same ol Panthers.  Any one else see this on any level?

Re: Serious Question

Jay you hit the nail on the head with this one.  It's sad to say, but as a fan I have learned to never expect greatness with this team.  Just like everyone else I have been optimistic about this season, but that optimism has begun to fade away because those same "Panther tendencies" have starting showing yet again.  I believe that, with the fan base, this will be the norm until that team changes it's identity by playing to it potential every week.  I hope the players are not complacent with being an 8-8 football team, but it looks like that's the path we're headed down once again.

Like someone posted in another thread, this team needs to lockdown and play some damn football or it could be busted up ino another rebuilding process real soon.

Re: Serious Question

You both are correct. We have never been the team to jump on other teams after having a lead and keep scoring! We just sit back and relax with the run. We have to go for the juggiler (sp) and destroy opponents to the death. We start celebrating each week after a victory like we won the super bowl. It's all high fives and celebrations after a 1-1 start. Cam is my boy, I love this dude, but he needs to get that killer instinct in him and allow that to permeate throughout the team. Maybe he is just young but we need some dawgs to make this team nasty and quick. Starts with the falcons this week! 2-2 baby!

Re: Serious Question

Each and every snap of each and every game...it comes down to who eats who's cabbage...I think they have a bad habit of forgetting this critical aspect of the game...eat or be eaten!!!

Re: Serious Question

I for one am tired of seeing our d play so soft. Year after year, it's the same thing. I'm stoked about Cam's potential, I hope he can reach it. I wonder more about what JR looks for in a coach. Could it be we just haven't had a coach that's hard nosed enough to really light a fire under the team?

Re: Serious Question

Just watched a news piece by beatwriter Joe Person...it featured a video of Coach Rivera saying "Atlanta has the QB, the WR's and the RB...they have the total package and that is where we want to get too"...

Wow, I profess I have never coached a down of NFL football...I am simply a fan, but I do understand the dynamic of expectation and the concept of "A Self-fulfilling Prophecy".

As long as Rivera keeps talking about wanting to becoming, growing, developing, process and building...I am becoming convienced that this team will consider itself to be just that...a team that isnt there yet...a team that is still becoming, growing, developing, processing and building!

Memo to Coach Rivera: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR--CUZ YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT!!! (this team has a expectation of being a average team that is just not there yet...wonder why they end up playing that way!)
