Coaching options

So let's address the big elephant in the room, HC. Do you see us firing Rivera at the end of the season and more importantly, who is the one man who can pull us out of this dismal abyss and into a winning culture? Let's consider the names out there who are real candidates. I didn't mind the hiring of Ron, but it hasn't appeared to be working out so well. I'm not calling for his job, only asking for prime candidates to turn things around should the big kahuna decide to pull the trigger. Who is your choice and why? (You can of course say Rivera, but still give the reason why).

I will throw one name out there...Sean Payton. I know he is a dog with the bounty scandal BUT we have no time nor energy to make nice right now. We need someone with swagger and Carolina might be the fresh start he needs. I don't think the saints are set on him coming back for sure and his contract is up. Dallas will be looking hard too.

Re: Coaching options

First off, while i agree with the firing of the ST coacher, Rivera himself set his own nuse around his neck with the lack of productivity line concerning Murphy...As much as I like Rivera...the buck stops with him and his team has been unproductive...IMO unless they finish out by winning 5 of the next 7...Rivera's nuse will do its productive thing....hang him!

IMO the club can do better than S Payton...IMO D Brees is the reason why he is viewed as a successful coach...Dallas can have Payton...we'll see what he can do with the likes of Romo...

Re: Coaching options

Everyone is going nutz for Cowher, and I understand why, but I would love to see John Gruden get a shot at coaching Cam Newton.  Cam needs that type of guidance right now, and QBs are Gruden's specialty.

That's my choice.

LOL...kinda funky selecting ones own quote...but i gotta qualify it...I agree that the ST units were...well...under performing at a level which should get a guy fired...

HOWEVER, in looking at the overall product...the team under performing at large I STRUGGLE with the HC of a 2-7 team firing anyone...he is in charge of the ship in total...

IMO unless an assistant coach is insubordinate and not following the HC's orders I have a tough time swallowing a 2-7 HC passing the buck and the axe head down on the neck of the assistants

Seems almost like Rivera is looking for alibis and excusses...he is the captain of the ship...he is responsible for all aspect of play...

I know this can be viewed as Rivera's way of trying to right the ST's units...But i also wonder how he sleeps at night...he fires a guy who's unit is below average and in fact bad...when Rivera's team is way below average and only 2 games away from being winless in 9 ballgames!!!!

In a way I'd prefered to see Rivera take more personal accounting for the teams dismal unproductive play!

Re: Coaching options

Forget The Chin...forget The Frown-n-Squint: Gruden...IMO they should go to College Station PA and get that new Penn State HC...He is doing one amazing job under some most crushing circumstances...He has  a great professional background working with Bellichek at NE and speaking of QB's the dude did some nice stuff with T Brady!!!!

Re: Coaching options

No offense, but the last thing this team needs is another coach that has to learn how to coach in this league!  Stay away from college coaches!!  Stay away from coordinators!!  Get somebody in here that had been there, and done that, and can get this team where the hell it needs to be!

Bringing in a college coach?  We may as well keep Rivera here because I'm pretty sure he will be a good coach once he figures this shit out.

Re: Coaching options

Rivera has an innocence about him which makes me think he will be successful, just not right now. To me he exemplifies what san diego is, just ordinary. They had some big time talent but wiffed every year, including this one. Rivera is very mediocre and we have lost so many close ones, you have to feel the coaching is responsible for most of it. ST's alone cost us 2-3 games since last year. There were some key veterans out there that could have contributed, did he push for nay of those? Look what vincent j. is doing in tampa. How we could have used him! We are stacked at rb and deficient at other spots. So I opt for a hard nosed ex-nfl coach, no more projects!

Bring on the CHIN!
