It has nothing to do with stupidity.  It is about having a winning philosophy and sticking to it like what got the Steelers the success that they have today.  And when did we trade our 1st rounder for a DT?!?!?!?!?  I missed that tidbit.
You are correct and thank for pointing it out to me.  We already traded our #1 pick before we traded for DT from Browns.  49ers will get our #1 pick in 2010.  We traded our #7 for Josh McGown who didn't make the 53-men rosters.  The trade for DT is for undisclosed draft pick so it looks like we will have just 4 picks in 2010 unless we get a supplement draft.  So want to tell me why you thought it was NOT stupid to keep Peppers around??  What was so smart about holding on to him and pay him about 20% of the 2009 salary cap?  How is keeping him helping us being 0-3??  Care to enlight us all as we are really curious why you did not think it was stupid??

In my strong opinion, we are really better off letting Peppers go, but guess what?  Because we are stuck with him, we can not acquire some of good veteran players that is available in the Free Agent market such as Derrick Brooks, Mark Jones (Titans re-signed him this week and admitted it was a mistake letting him go).  Mark Jones and Ken Lucas are few key players who had to be let go because of Peppers.

Know what really would be interesting??  At end of the season, Peppers says he wants out of Carolina and then see Carolina Panthers decide if they want to franchise tag him again and pay him $22 Million Dollars (IF NFL and NFLPA come to term with CBA).  Do you think Panthers will still hold on to him and risk losing more key players or do you think Panthers will finally smart up and let him go??  I hope Peppers doesn't insist on leaving Carolina after this season because if he does then Panthers will be laughingstock in the NFL.
WHAT?!?!?!?  SO many things worng with this I am not sure where to begin.  FIrst off what does a 7th rounder LAST YEAR for McCown (with a C) have anythign to do with this year draft??? And McCown (with a c) did make the 53 man roster but was injured and put on IR.  Why are you asking me about Pep?  I said before he was even franchised that he needs to be franchised and then TRADED!  I have said that since last year, so.....?????  I said sticking to your philosophy was not stupid bc that is what wins championships.  The only problem is that they chose to keep one player using that philosophy instead of about five other players and Lucas was not one of them.  Poor play doomed him if we had unlimited cap room.  I listed the players he cost us in another thread, they included Jones, Kyle, Frank O, Hangartner, and Bridges.

Re: Official FIre John Fox thread

I didnt see that other thread but yes you are right about few key players being lost..  oh well..  We live and learn.. hopefully Panthers will fix that during the next off-season and hope for a better season next year.  I'm not necessary saying this year is over but I think it is probably safe to say that Super Bowl trip is unlikely for 2009.

jayj6,

I forgot to add one more thing.  I was trying to explain my point here that if we had decided to trade Peppers away for two 2nd round (2009 and 2010) then it would be more practical because it gives us a leverage in draft.  Do you have any idea how many teams are really NOT wanting to have 1st round because they will be stuck with paying unproven rookie megamillion dollars contract.  I mean, look at 49ers as they are in standstill with negiotating Michael Crabtree because Crabtree is demanding too much as a unproved rookie.

By having double 2nd rounds in 2009 and 2010, we can pick more players and pay them less than what 1st round normally get or we might be able to trade up for 1st round real quick if there is somebody we have eye on and the team want to give up their 1st round (If the deal is right).

If we had gone with this avenue, we would be doing exactly what Dallas Cowboys did in early 90's and what Steelers are doing by going with many young players and develop around them.  Peppers is about to reach the age where he will soon be out of his Prime and he is starting to watch out for himself by using his leverage to "Pay me or else".  We probably would have gotten two Everette Brown or three if we had more picks.
Add us to the list of teams that are drafting players and trying to keep them.  How can you knock it when we do it and praise it when others do it???   Pep, Beason, Smitty, Williams, Gross, Kalil, Wharton, Godfrey, Gamble, Marshall, Moose, Stewart, King, Otah, Davis, and Hoover (technically as never played for another team and we developed him soley) all are players that we drafted and developed and start and play at a high level.

Amen to that!  I just think that with Jerry Richardson out tending to his heart (transplated), the management made some poor decision I suspect Richardson wouldn't have approved or agree?  I could be wrong!  I don't mind having Delhomme for this year but what really made me boiling mad is the 5-years extension!!

Re: Official FIre John Fox thread

Well good ol Dan said on the radio that it was really more like a three year deal.  Not sure why he made a point to clarify this but he did for some reason.
