Delhomme is not our biggest problem

I know that Delhomme has thrown 7 interceptions in his last 3 games, but really you can't put either of the ones last night on Delhomme.  Both looked like they were the recievers fault(Smitty admits this).  The 1 against the Falcons was on a 4th down and he had to do something, and the first 1 against the Ingles was just a great catch by the defender of a double tiopped ball.  yes we do need to do something about Delhomme because he isn't getting any younger, but I don't think he is our biggest problem.  After last night we have 2 huge problems with our team.

1. Special Teams: they have been anything but.  The difference between the first and second half last night was where the Cowboys started with the ball.  1st half it was around their 20.  Second half it was around their 45.  That makes a huge difference.  If we keep giving FP up like that we might as well not even bother kicking it.

2. Offensive playcalling.  We were down by three point and the coaching staff abandons the run.  Why? I mean Williams was averaging 6+ypc and we start acting like we gotta air it out.  I'm sorry but our offensive play calling was awful last night. Please explain why we keep going to moose on the post when he is too old to beat anyone.  We brought him back to be a possesion reciever not the other Smitty.

Best thing about last night: Our defense.  I know it didn't look great in the second half, but they were on the field for almost the entire second half and played well enough to keep us in the game until we gave up the pick six.  With our offense we should be able to win any game where the defense keeps a team to 13 pts on offense with a contiual short field.

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

Oh please! Let's observe Cowboys-Panthers game..

What happened in first half?  We moved the ball some and sat on clock for few minutes on each possesion and kept cowboys almost scoreless heading into halftime. We were managing clock fine although Jake already thew the INT (underthrown to Muslin result in INT and it WASN'T Muslin fault!)

In 2nd half, guess what? They decided to put it in Jake's hand based on last drive leading to TD in 1st half. They end up on too many 3 and out.  Defense got wore down.  Dallas offense got into rhythm and moved better winning field position battle. It suddenly became a losing cause.

Sure, I won't argue with you that special team and defense wasn't great but can they help it if Jake kept throwing a pick-off by not reading defense (no offend but he doesn't read defense well!).  The bottom line is that if we can move the ball and sit on clock for few mins to give our defense some rest, we can grind it out and try to keep game close with hope to win it at final second, the similar strategy that helped us to Super Bowl in 2003 and worked good last year.  It is unfortunately JD playing has depreciated and is showing it.  He simply got to go!  It was good having him but his time has come to say good bye.

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

I wasn't saying that we don't need playat QB.  My point is that Delhomme is not our biggest problem.  Our offense sucked because we threw the ball twice as much as we ran it. We are not the Saints.  We are the Carolina panthers and we win by running the ball down your throat and get you on the PA pass.  And our defense did play well.  We gave up 13 points to an offense that hung 31 on the Giants last week.  I'm not defending Jake here, but I thought it was pretty obvious that both of his picks last night were on Moose and Smitty.

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

Oh you mean the underthrown ball to Moose & the pass directly to the defender that went back for 6?

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

For the fact, the first INT was NOT Moose fault! It was underthrown! It went straight to DB hand and he had it so easily. If Muslin had tried to do anything, he would have earned a pass interference but it wouldn't make any difference because it was a sure thing for DB to pick it off.  There was clearly a miscommunication between Smith and JD because you can see Smith going one way and JD throwing other way into DB hand.  So two TOs were JD fault.  Not one (fumble).

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

Defense is our biggest problem by far.  Even when they played "great" for a half there were still major tackling issues.  Our D improves and we are fine.  If not then......

Re: Delhomme is not our biggest problem

I think we are to far in the whole for it to matter.  Maybe if we played in the NFC West or AFC West we might have a shot, but we are 3 games behind the falcons and Saints now.  Pretty sad when our defense is the best thing in a game where we still didn't play great.
