New Look On Panther's Pass Rush

I give our D and B+ today on Pass Defense.

Peppers:  2 Sacks
Beason:  1 Sack
Davis:   1 Sack
Brown:   1 Sack

I really like that stat line.  Before the year, Beason had gone 2 years with no sacks.  It looks like he's understanding the position enough to break on the ball and go in and get the sack.  He could be the next superstar linebacker in the making as he has 2 sacks already this year, indicating that he's learning how to be like Ray Lewis and learning when to Blitz himself and when to drop back into coverage.  I love it!

Also, did anyone notice our D-Line on the last pass rush that got our offence the ball back?!?!?

Left to Right:

Brown, Brayton, Johnson, Peppers....yup, we used all 4 of our DT's and got pressure in like 2 seconds, with Beason, Brayton, and Peppers all having sack opportunities and ultimately stopped him at the LoS.

Beautiful.  I'm starting to like this defense, btw.

Munnerlyn showing signs of shut down ability (yea, he got a PI, but I LOVE the effort from the rookie!).

We tackled well today too.

And Hollis Thomas should've been signed in training camp!!!  Portis, Pro-Bowler last year, had no single run more than 8 yards.  We defended then run so much better.

The team of the last 3 games prior would've given up several 20 yards runs to him today.

BTW, our O-Line went from looking like one of the best to one of the worst...and it's the same set of guys!!!  Constantly getting dominated from 4 different D-Line's, and have opened next to 0 holes for our running game.  Kinda pathetic...we might have to start winning games through the air and good defense again....

I can't edit, but I meant all 4 of our DE's, not DT's, LOL.

Yea the defense played well today. but the Deadskins are not the saints! Great win but I am not getting to excited...we have a lot of improving to do if we are going to make the playoffs.

Re: New Look On Panther's Pass Rush

Saints offense is no different then last years.  We swept them.  We match up well with them.

I'm worried about our O-Line.  In the Philly game they couldn't handle a blitz.  They went against a pretty bad run defense today and couldn't open a hole at all.

I don't know what their problem is, but they really suck.  Luckily for us, Jake has played well on our last 3 games.

BTW, I'm about tired of Moose.  We should just put him in on run plays and let Kenny Moore be the #2.  He missed a wide open pass and caused an INT that almost cost us the game.  I love Moose a lot, but in the Dallas game not only did he not try to get the ball, but he didn't even bat it down.  Most "good" receivers would've stopped that INT.  So I'm saying that through 4 games, he's responsible for 1.5 INT's.  Not what I want to see for the 2nd receiver who is rarely double teamed anyways.

So outside of Smith, we need some more receivers to pick up their play.  I like the use of King and Rossario though.  Both are good pass catchers.

You can't fault D-WIll and Stewie for the poor running game.  Our O-line has just flat out sucked through 4 games, in my conclusion.  LOL

Re: New Look On Panther's Pass Rush

I really don't mean to rant on Moose, but with the exception of Smith on pass plays (he's trying hard, but is doubled teamed and sometimes tripled), our team hasn't exactly helped Jake out on passing (sacks due to pressure and a few INT's that weren't his fault--the last 3 especially).

I'm so happy for Jake' confidence that he threw D-Hall to the ground and ran over the safety to win the game for us.  He has all the pressure in the world on his back right now and that helped take some of it away!

Also, I really don't know what our O-Line's problem is.  Gross had a bad day...worst in a LONG time.  Our interior, which looked strong last year, is struggling to keep the other team's DT our of the way.  B/C of that, the 2 DT's are taking our 3 of our linemen, freeing up linebackers to stop us from running outside.

Wharton, Kalil, Vincent.  I'm talking about you.  You need to play dirty in the middle.  We need you to play like last year or we will not be running the ball this year!

Re: New Look On Panther's Pass Rush

good post man, i dont understand the offensive line either, one thing maybe because they are facing bigger d line man than they faced last year maybe? Whatever the reason they need to get it fixed, this team needs a dominant offensive line in order to be consistent and competitive. The O line was supposed to be the biggest bright spot coming into this season. As for the moose comments he is getting older and yes he has blown some plays. Many people dont like to talk about how he messes up because of what he means to the organization but in all reality he blows plays everyonce in a while too
