2 trades Adam Schefter says the Panthers should make....and won't

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=schefter_adam&id=4563132

"At the trade deadline, baseball is action, energy, deals; football is inactivity, quiet, no deals. With Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline rapidly approaching, here are five deals that should -- but won't -- be made.

1. Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers to San Francisco for a first-round pick: This is perfect. After trading their 2010 first-round pick to San Francisco for the 49ers' 2009 second-round pick, the Panthers can get back a first-round pick for a player who has tried to get out of Carolina. If anyone can motivate Peppers, it's 49ers coach Mike Singletary. And San Francisco still would have a first-round pick in April.

4. Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn to Carolina for a conditional fourth-round pick: Clearly, the Quinn-Cleveland marriage hasn't worked any better than Greg Norman and Chris Evert's, so call it a day. Right now, Carolina doesn't have a first-round pick in April, and would be unable to draft one of the top quarterbacks, so it would make sense to take a chance on a quarterback who needs a change of scenery."

Both trades won't happen. First the Panthers have too much money invested in Delhomme. Plus, Fox is too loyal and the only way Delhomme isn't starting is if Fox gets fired or Delhomme's arm falls off. Even then Fox will probably want Delhomme to throw with his left hand before anyone else starts. Peppers trade won't happen because if the Panthers didn't trade him in the off-season they are def not gonna trade Peppers when both Fox and Hurney are trying to save thier jobs for a draft pick that they won't be here to use. I would def want to see the Peppers trade. Better to get something for him instead of loosing him for nothing which we will this off-season.

Re: 2 trades Adam Schefter says the Panthers should make....and won't

It would be nice to get something for Peppers, especially a draft pick, but when (or if) he leaves at the end of the season the Panthers will have a pretty good amount of space under the salary cap. Hopefully they will be able to bring in some quality free agents, so letting him go for nothing won't be all bad.  Of course, it may turn out that there is no salary cap next season.

I do hope they find a way to get back into the first round.  The window to get a qb for the future is slamming shut fast, but I'm not sure Brady Quinn will ever be much of a pro.

We should at least take a chance on BQ, in my opinion. We could probably pick him up for dirt cheap.

As for Peppers, that's a good trade too. Brown looks like he's more than ready to take over the pass rushing duties. Brayton isn't looking too bad, either.

No way would I want Brady Quinn here. For all the BS hype surrounding him in the draft, he's done NOTHING to live up to it. Sure, it's Cleveland, but even David Carr (blasphemy, I know) did something with nothing in Houston, even if all the sacks did cause him permanent PTSD. We have a much better Offensive Line than Cleveland, but for some reason I just don't trust his arm strength. That would be my problem with him. That and I think he'll wind up an injury hound.

brady quinn? no thank you. i'll stick with jake. but the peppers deal would be nice. but if nobody offered anything for him this past offseason do any of you really expect an offer now? he hasnt really done anything except for this past game when he got his slacker ass called out. dont look for a deal to happen.

We are not sure if anyone offered anything for him or not.  No one knows.  And a fourth rounder for a guy that was a former first rounder intrigues me as we have done really well with other team failed first rounders.  (Lewis, Brayton)
