Preseason Midpoint

We have definatly seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the Panthers may or may not bring to the table this year. At this point in the preseason, I find myself thinking "Man I miss Mark Jones". With the exception of 1 good return by Captain Munnerlyn, the Panthers return game looks terrible. Mark Jones may not have been an explosive touchdown scorer, but atleast he was reliable. It seems like everytime we drop back to return a punt, theres a 90% chance that it's gonna be muffed, or fumbled. And the kickoff return game has also been less than stellar. & What was up with that botched snap by Jansen on the field goal attempt? Looks like the Saints did a good job in picking up the reliable Jason Kyle. Jeff King looked good against the Dolphins though, and Barnidge, who played well against the Giants, dropped a decently thrown ball. Rosario, the other TE played really well in both games, especially in blocking. This TE battle is getting more and more interesting. The great offensive play calling by Dan Henning shows that he can do what Fox won't let anyone on his coaching staff do: Coach. Fox gives both coordinators a set of plays and says this is what were going to do. (No wonder the Defense looks exactly the same as when Trgovac "ran" it, and Daividson's offense is the same as what Henning was told to use) In Miami, Henning is aloud to breath and draw up plays, and he does great with some of the Wildcat plays. I was one of those who wanted Henning gone, but now I see it's Fox who calls 3 runs in a row (including all 3rd and long situations...J/K anly 75% of them LOL), then a punt on 4th & inches on the opponents 40 yard line. But I digress. Anyone else think that the Panthers have found somthing in this Goodson kid? This guy has a crazy burst of speed when he turns the corner, and has played really well thus far. They need to find a way to use him without taking touches away from Will and Stew. Maybe as a slot receiver in a 3 WR set, since Jarret, um...how do I say, Sucks! Kenneth Moore should be the #3 guy, because he actually shows promise. Our secondary has played terrible, just as our Run D has. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come. Everette Brown has played pretty well, and Peppers has done absolutly nothing. Jake looked terrible against the Giants, but decent against the Dolphins mediocre pass defense. In my opinion, the Panthers need to cut McCown, and keep Moore and Cantwell. Does anyone know/think McCown could be decent trade bait? I'll leave you with that Panthers Fans. Lemme know what you think. Put your two cents worth in, I look forward to reading the responses.

Re: Preseason Midpoint

PantherClawz Id say you summed it up pretty well. I put my hope in the fact that TD, Smitty and JStew still havent played/practiced and they will be those small pieces we need to get that attitude, spark, etc that we're missing. I also hope Pep is holding back. I also hope that there is someone out there to replace Kemo. All that said and following up on your points, this requires the players themselves to over come the horrible coaching that Fox seems content to run year over year and for Hurney to find that guy(s). The players did it last year and Hurney did it with Harris late in the season...here's to wishing!

Re: Preseason Midpoint

I like Moore as our #2, I feel the offense will prosper once all the pieces are in play. Our Run D scares the Hell out of me!!!

Re: Preseason Midpoint

I wouldn't call Leo wine and cheese because he does have a point about Fox's overwhelming authority, but I don't think that contributes to the team's bad play at all.  Fox only takes control when he feels he has to, but I think our defense is still learning and applying the Ron Meeks style defensive concepts and that has led to some poor defensive play...plus the loss of Kemo was huge.  I feel like we will be ready to roll when Philly comes to town in wk 1.
