What is it going to take to be a consistent contender? The ultimate goal every year is to win a SB. With the way the NFL is now it is almost impossible to win that every year, but that is the goal and every fan wants their team to be a continual contender. I believe that panthers are close and that it may only take a couple of things to get us there, which I have listed as follows

Re: What is it going to take to be a consistent contender?I think its going to take a new head coach. I just dont see this team buying into Fox's plan anymore. He had a good run but this team needs a new attitude. In my opinion Cowher is the best man for the job. I know alot of people may disagree with me but he won a superbowl with a strong defense and an average QB at the time. I dont see there being a franchise QB out there that can turn this team around on his own. Its going to take a new scheme with the players already in place for the most part. There may be some minor shuffling especially on the D-line for the reasons you referred to but I dont think there's any specific position upgrades thats going to create better than average results if Fox is still the coach. |

Re: What is it going to take to be a consistent contender?Ditto's...finding the means to take sum of the double trouble coverage off of 89 is critical...the Carolina passing game or lack there of is not all because the Q's short comings...while they could & would improve the passing game...given the fact he/89 would still be double covered a great deal of the time...brees, brady, manning---Carolina would probly be one of the last places/teams they would choose to play for...because of the lack of any quality...NFL high quality...in the #2-3 Wr spots... |

Re: What is it going to take to be a consistent contender?I agree we need a more than serviceable #2 threat opposite Smitty. We need a duet at WR like we have at RB. The only problem with drafting WRs is that you often get a Mike Williams or Charles Rogers as opposed to a Calvin Johnson. We need a mammoth receiver (over 6'3" IMO) that can go get the tough catches across the middle, with a bit of a burner to him. And also one who can run block like Moose. Is that so much to ask for? LOL! Seriously though, that's the kind of guy that will make our QB play more consistent, our run game the most feared in the NFL, and keep our defense off the field for extended periods of the game.

Re: What is it going to take to be a consistent contender?Don't forget Leonard Louis on IR, too. We've been quietly loading up on several high-upside, young DT's, so I don't think there are many scenarios where we'd keep Thomas and Kemo, especially since Kemo is set to get a big paycheck and he's coming off of a major injury. IMO, our DT corps next season will consist of Hayden, Louis, Tyler, Lewis, and Irvin in no particular order unless we do something else over the offseason that I cannot forsee. |

Re: What is it going to take to be a consistent contender?Well I guess you all know I'm going with UNCPanther on this one. You can get DTs galore and put Larry Fitzgerald opposite Smitty if you could, but as long as Fox is allowing the draw play on 3rd and long, as long as we still refuse to blitz especially when we're being blitzed to death and loyalty to counter productive players costs us 5 games of our season (Talbot you forgot that game @ ATL we were down by a touchdown and 2 point conversion driving in the redzone and Jake throws a pick in the endzone), we will NEVER be consistent winners. Fox has proven that to us beyond a shadow of a doubt! You gotta start with Fox if not you have what we have now a collection of wasted talent! |
