Re: GodfreyThe secondary is not suppose to be a tackling machine. I think thats been the problem, safeties flying to hit but getting beat deep & not providing tight coverage. Harris is a heavy hitter but not much of a cover, deep threat menace. I think Martin has the best chance of being that interception type ball hawk that they need to compliment Harris' run support. Teal has shown he can be that type of safety as well. Godfrey was never really that impressive anyways. |

Re: GodfreyDo you want your front 7 to handle most of the running game stuff...well yes...but a secondary is going to be invoved heavily in aspects of run defense...just like it takes a great pass rush to have great pass defense...it does take the secondary support to fitout great run defense...every position on the field has to tackle. MM played on some of the Panthers best teams and he didnt become the all-time leading Panther tackler because he was playing out of position. Db's and especially Safetys have to be effective tacklers! |

Re: GodfreyNo one is saying, but many people believe that he will be ready for the regular season(although he will most likely be wearing a cast). This will give some of the other players a chance to shine> sherod Martin may be getting snaps with the first team. Sat. night should be interesting. |

Re: GodfreyMan our season just keeps gettin better and better. I looked it up, and you were right. The Colt's D allowed 1966 Rush yds last season (almost 123 yds per game). That's a terrible stat for us (Meeks) to face, especially with our run D looking the way it has. But they only allowed about 189 pass yds per game. Our secondary hasn't exactly looked supburb, but I believe Meeks can make them better by week 1. By the way, Carolina gave up 212 pass yds per game & 119 rush yds per game last year. So as far as improving off of that, time will tell. |

Re: GodfreyI think they got run on a lot the year the won the super bowl but when Bob Sanders came back he changed that. I understand Safeties are important to the run defense but I believe Indy's changed dramatically depending on whether sanders was healty or not. I sure hope Harris is a healthier version of sanders, I think he can be. He hits hard. |
