Theory...Just a thought, but with uncertainty abouta potential lockout and paying players not to play, do you think the Panthers are going to play it ultra safe and tag both Peppers and Davis this year, thus avoiding committing a huge amount of money to players who may be sitting on their couches on Sundays in 2011? I know that'd be a big chunk of change to tag both, but I'm wondering if that's what they're thinking, since we haven't heard anything on talks between anyone. |

Re: Theory...Committing to 20 million for one year would be doing the exact opposite of what you are theorizing. IE tagging Peppers again... |

Re: Theory...You're right MVPanthersFan11. There is only one franchise tag. There are however, two transition tags for 2010 and the service limits have changed somewhat. Basically, it means that it will be impossible for someone to take away a player like...say...Matt Moore. He hasn't played long enough to go FA in 2010 if it's uncapped (I think). Anyway, for a clearer understanding of the situation I recommend reading Pat Kirwan's article here:

Re: Theory...All of this hinges on if the CBA expires and we go into an uncapped season. This will likely happen and that's when the extra tag will kick in. Also as Dkes mentioned then the services rules will also change. But I don't see the Panthers tagging Julius out of fear of what may or may not happen in 2011. It's basically a pay now or pay later situation...but they will have to pay! |

Re: Theory...i believe it's a mistake to tag pep,we can't afford it, sign him or let him walk because the guy wants the tag! he wants it...why?..money! he gets 20million,then gets a year off i say year off because the lockout in 2011 will probably happen, then he goes to the highest bidder in 2012, throw in some playmates and it's wet dream! |
