they’re the only two quarterbacks the Carolina tandem of John Fox and Marty Hurney have ever drafted. I’ve got a hunch it’s going to stay that way, and LeFors and Fasani are a big part of the reason.

LeFors was a fourth-round pick in 2005 and Fasani a fifth-round choice in 2002. Neither of them could play and they were just drafted with the hope that they might be backups. The truth is, Fox and Hurney don’t believe you should use an early pick to take a quarterback because it takes too long to develop at that position.

With Fox headed into a lame-duck season, that philosophy is probably truer than ever. Besides, the Panthers don’t have a first-round pick this year and don’t get me started on the possibility of Tim Tebow in the third round. The Panthers need a quarterback they can win with now.


While Hurney and Fox have had some success they have failed to develop a young QB to take over.  I think they have accidentally developed Moore but don't even know it.  They refused to play Moore last year despite Jake having an epically bad season.  One of the worst a veteran starting QB has ever had, but it took a injury to put Moore in the game.  Now they say the QB position is up for grabs?  By who exactly?  You can't bring anyone in except journeyman.  If Moore can play great but you should know that and give Moore the confidence vote now.  Drafting Qb's in low rounds or signing undrafted guys is usually a recipe for disaster, the patriots got lucky with Brady.  If we are to emulate the steelers as most suggest then we would have taken a first round QB.  I would fire the tandem for drafting Jonathan Stewart, heresy you say, I love Stewart I have his jersey but we would have been better served by Flacco.  Reportedly we could get as high as 5 in the draft, they wanted Ryan, but couldn't get to number 3.  If they could have gotten to number 5 they could have gotten flacco.  It is very hard to predict the future but that is part of the GM's job, they should have traded peppers to move up and get someone 2-3 yrs ago.  Instead they kept him until he is untradeable because everyone is afraid of his contract demands.  I believe our scouts are half-way decent so we get decent picks overall but the philosophy of team building is lacking.
