Re: This is what drives me crazy about Fox/HurneyThey couldnt trade pep because of the same reason they cannot now. And you do take chances with qb's every year. Flacco was a fighting hen, never played anyone, not div 1. A total gamble. Many thought Quinn might work out, didnt so much. Brady late rounder came up big-surprise. I think the philosophy is spot on. Is it vanilla and frustrating? Yes! But why go year after year banking on an unproven qb when so few actually work out early in their careers? I think most GM's stand by this model in all professional sports. And how do you "accidentally develop" a qb? Weird, never heard that before. I'm as frustrated with the brass as you are sometimes but Hurney's track record is still pretty good. You win some lose some. Dude knows football s'all Im sayin. And Fox is still one of the best tenured out there-please believe it. |

Re: This is what drives me crazy about Fox/HurneyYou have to take chances getting a QB because that is usually what wins championships QB's. Who were the final four QB's this year? Brees, Manning, Favre, Sanchez. 3 teams with great QB's and one team with a great D and a new qb. I think they have proven focusing the majority of team resources (money and 1st round picks) on defensive end while ignoring QB position (and staying with Jake as long as we did is ignoring the importance of the position) is not the recipe for success. The best defense ever over an extended period was the steelers in the seventies. It won them 2 super bowls. Terry Bradshaw and a great running game won 2 more super bowls. Not using a first round pick to find a QB is a reckless waste of time. Over the last 10 yrs the percentage of draft bust QB's has decreased. You can certainly miss but you will never win the QB lottery if you don't play. We have no first round pick to take a QB in what is a very rich QB draft, how many defensive player of the year awards will everette brown have to win to justify that. By the way we could have signed Brees as an insurance policy to Delhomme, he was available but god forbid we take a chance on anything other than defensive end. Hurney and fox have repeatedly proven they think d. end is the most important position on the field. When will they realize d. end is only important because QB is the most important position. It is what makes left tackles so valuable. It is a QB driven game. |

Re: This is what drives me crazy about Fox/HurneySanchez=great? Unproven I say. I agree with you on most of this but keep in mind not every team can have a top five qb. After the top 7, what do you have? Mediocre qb's and thats what is available this year in the draft as well. There are 1-2 quality qbs but some rookies will have to be surprises and are unknown at this point as to if they will be great. And we didn't have the opportunity to land Brees. Every qb we have gambled on has failed. Hopefully Moore is the answer but we have to wait until the season is on the line not a busted up start and no playoff hope. |

Re: This is what drives me crazy about Fox/HurneyIt would seem so but NO I mean a rook. Build the squad on D and solid running. Takes a lot to bank on an unproven qb who "might" develop and "possibly" have the tools. The great ones come along every once in a while. Brees been out there for a minute. Even McNabb hasn't been the formula to get philly a ring. Manning got one, thats it. Roth aint that good at all but got 2, how you explain that? Rivers pretty good=no ring. Vick=zilch. Brady...sixth round, go figure=3 rings. I'm just saying each team has a different philosophy. Ours is ok and working. |

Re: This is what drives me crazy about Fox/HurneyI agree there are probably 5 teams with franchise qb's who can challenge for super bowls most years. If we don't use a first round pick to try and find ours it is unlikely we will ever find him. Not impossible just not likely. Picking QB's off the scrap heap is not likely to get the position adequately filled. Fox/hurney are willing to trade the future for mediocrity as long as they keep their jobs and I am tired of it. I would tell the whole team, coaches, gm, players I demand a super bowl win or hurney/fox are out on their ass. They have had plenty of time and resources to build a consistent super bowl contender and have not done it. Every other year is not what I want. I want to win the super bowl every year and not developing a QB to replace an aging veteran coming off surgery no QB has ever returned from was foolish and should have cost them their job already. I don't know why I'm so mad today. But I am really pissed over our QB situation(although I think we might be lucky and moore will be okay) and our d. end situation. |
